ESPN Bracket Bound 2011 gets you in on the excitement of this year’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

  • Version: 1.0
  • Size: 1.89MB (no apps2SD)
  • Category: Sports
  • Price: Free

First, the most important feature of this app is the ability to research and fill out your NCAA tournament bracket. Every year ESPN offers their Tournament Challenge where you can compete with friends, family, etc. in large groups to see who can best predict tournament results. Now you can manage up to 10 different brackets all from within this single app.

Making your bracket selections with this app has been made very simple. All you have to do is tap on the teams that you believe will win each match-up, until you finally select your national champion. In the case of a tie, the national championship final score will be used as a tie breaker. The mini-bracket graphic in the top right is useful for navigating your bracket, as are the left/right arrows.

If you haven’t been following the college basketball season as closely as some of your group members, check out the research, news, and video categories to get the latest analysis, expert predictions, and commentary.

  • Research and fill-out your NCAAB bracket(s)
  • Track your performance in private and public groups of friends, family, and other college basketball fans
  • Follow the leaderboard of top entries across all users

Areas for improvement:

  • Improve stability issues (force closes) which are especially frustrating when submitting a bracket

Conclusion: An exciting app for following the NCAA tournament and proving your bracket-selection expertise.

Touchdown! ESPN Fantasy Football 2010

Posted on Sep 9, 2010 in Sports, Top Rated Apps | comment

Play fantasy football anywhere you are with the ESPN Fantasy Football 2010 app.

  • Version: 1.0
  • Size: 0.89MB
  • Category: Sports
  • Price: $4.99

Once you login to your ESPN account, you can view all of your fantasy football teams. It’s easy to manage your rosters, make lineup adjustments (real handy for last-minute changes because of injury updates), propose/accept trades, and get live scoring updates. This app is quite functional and gives you access to team details, league standings, available players, schedule, message board, and league settings.

The most valuable function of this app is the ability to manage rosters on the go. Click the “M” next to a player and get the option to select a new slot to fill. If you’re wondering about the latest news/stats/injury reports on a specific player, click their name to bring up their player card. This app will surely come in handy when you have that “oh no!” moment when you realize you’ve left players actively on your roster during their bye week.

Personally, I haven’t experienced many of the problems (e.g. force close, connection issues) that other users have encountered. Additionally, even though a lot of this information is available on ESPN’s mobile site, the app is organized in a way that is much more functional than the mobile site. Hopefully as the features are added and updated, the price of this app will be justified for more people.

  • Manage your fantasy rosters on the go
  • Well organized and highly functional
  • Instant access to fantasy news/stats/ESPN articles

Areas for improvement:

  • Support for Live Drafts
  • Expand filter/sorting of free agent players
  • Push notifications for scoring, player info, etc.
  • Widget!

Conclusion: If you can live with the price tag, this app is a must-have for fantasy football addicts.

Sports covered:

  • Auto Racing

  • Football
  • Golf

When you first download ScoreCenter, you’ll want to go into the preferences (from the Menu or the red arrow tray box just above the ticker) and choose your favorite teams. Next, choose the sports and leagues that you are interested in following. These crucial customizations really give this app a personalized feel that will show you only the information you care about. Your choices will be added as new panels, along with the day’s Top Events.

The ESPN ticker scrolling across the bottom of the app really tops off the app and validates the official ESPN feel. It’s almost like you’re watching a mini TV.

If you’re looking to follow the play-by-play or read up on the recap and final stats, clicking the game in the scorecard will take you to the Mobile Web version of ESPN. Since this app is only available for 2.0+ devices, this should be a fairly quick transition.

  • Product of ESPN, enough said
  • Scores and information customizable to your needs
  • User-interface is very clean and easily navigable
  • Ticker scrolls the bottom of the app!

Areas for improvement:

  • Move away from dependence on ESPN Mobile Web
