Scansfer Android App, Transfer Files, Apps, Contacts etc.

Scansfer Android App, Transfer Files, Apps, Contacts etc.

The Scansfer Android app offers one of the easiest ways to transfer files, apps, contacts, URLs, and even money between Android devices via QR codes.

  • Version: 2.1.4
  • Size: 399KB (apps2SD enabled)
  • Category: Productivity
  • Price: Free

Very similar in functionality to QR droid, Scansfer works by generating a scannable QR code for almost any item you’d like to share. Recipient must have an Android device with Barcode Scanner (or related scanning app).

For file transfers, the size limit is 6MB and works by securely transfering files from your Android device to, which in turn generates a private download key that is only accessible by scanning the unique QR code generated on your screen. Additionally, you can transfer files from your phone-to-PC and PC-to-phone through (requires account for login). The latter solutions involving your PC might be better served with the Awesome Drop or Bluetooth File Transfer Android apps because they do not require an account and are extremely simple to use.

For app sharing, a quick download link to the Android Market is embedded in the QR code. This will save your Android-touting friend from having to search the Android Market. There is also the option to directly send the .apk file installed on your phone, but it should be stated that this is only to be used with free apps. It might be in the best interest of Android app developers to remove this second option to avoid simplifying the process of illegally sharing/downloading apps (even though most paid apps are now protected/licensed).

In similar fashion, sharing contact information, bookmarks, and other URLs just involves the creation of a QR code.

Lastly, there is even the option to request money via PayPal with Scansfer, however, the PayPal Android app is probably the more preferred choice for these types of transactions.

  • Transfer files, apps, contacts, etc. via scannable QR codes
  • QR codes are secure (files transfered with https) and expire after 15 minutes
  • Main interface displays quick-access icons for all main sharing types

Areas for improvement:

  • Enable https file transfer by default in the settings
  • Increased file size limit would be a nice bonus

Conclusion: A quick and easy way to share nearly anything on your Android device via scannable QR codes.
