Top Android Game: Chalk Ball

Top Android Game: Chalk Ball

The Chalk Ball Android game features creative, smooth graphics and gameplay where you must prevent your ball from falling and being destroyed.

  • Version: 1.2.2
  • Size: 6.74MB (apps2SD enabled)
  • Category: Games
  • Price: $1.99 (Free Lite version)

Chalk Ball offers a different version of the bouncing-type Android games we’ve seen before. This time around, you’re responsible for drawing the lines of chalk on which your chalk ball can then bounce. But, you have to be wary of just how much chalk you’re using (shown by the stick of chalk at the top of the screen). If your chalk runs out, your ball will fall. Luckily, there are additional, stationary balls that earn you extra chalk (and points) when you hit them. At the same time, there are also balls which take away chalk, or even speed up or slow down your moving, in-play ball.

Tip: Use angled chalk lines to help control which balls you hit.

A great feature of this Android game is its in-game tutorial. As you start to play, each time you encounter a new ball or reach a certain milestone, the game will automatically pause and a pop-up explanation will appear. These instant tutorial pop-ups explain the function of the item and provide helpful hints. When you’re done with a pop-up, just tap the screen to continue playing.

Chalk Ball features two different modes: Survival and Adventures. The goal of Survival mode is pretty self-explanatory, keep your ball from falling as long as you can while collecting as many points as possible along the way. You can challenge yourself with varying levels of difficulty, from easy to insane. Scores are saved and can be stored/shared with OpenFeint. Adventures mode features a storyline as you work your way through each level toward the final “Goal Star.”

Once you’ve been playing this Android game for awhile, check out the Achievements list to see how many of the special combos you’ve managed to perform. A couple of examples are “hit 50 balls in a single game” or “score over 5,000 points in medium.”

  • Creative, entertaining, and smooth graphics and gameplay
  • Built-in (in-game) tutorial teaches you how to play, as you play
  • Two modes (Survival & Adventures) provide unique challenges
  • OpenFeint integration and Achievements list

Areas for improvement:

  • Some very small chalk lines do not appear on the screen but are still playable (in-play ball will bounce off of them)

Conclusion: A fast-paced, snap-reaction Android game where your goal is to draw lines of chalk to keep your chalk ball bouncing.
